Roy Mathews

Public Policy Associate


Roy Mathews is a public policy associate with Aii. Originally from Columbia, South Carolina, Roy is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, ME, where he double majored in Politics and History, with a focus on Security and Conflict. At Bates, Roy was a dedicated student athlete as a member of the Track and Field Team, while also participating in student organizations and managing the student newspapers Opinion section.

During his undergraduate studies, Roy held internships with U.S. Senators Tim Scott and Susan Collins in Washington D.C. He also completed competitive fellowships at the American Enterprise Institute and the Cato Institute, and through the Koch Institute Intern Program, worked at the Libertas Institute.

Throughout Maine, Roy worked with an assortment of environmental, business, and energy groups on several ballot initiatives in the state. Throughout these experiences, Roy acquired years of experience researching, writing, editing, and advocating for innovative approaches to public policy problems across many different fields.

The recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship, Roy is dedicated to pursuing research in public policy, government, and law. At Aii, Roy primarily researches sustainable energy, energy security, infrastructure revitalization and resilience, and comparative public policies. While not researching or writing about public policy, Roy enjoys following his favorite sports teams, collecting hats, and building his own library worth of books.
