FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Washington, D.C. (March 1, 2023) — The Alliance for Innovation and Infrastructure (Aii) today is launching its third annual Modern Roots March educational campaign to build up America’s infrastructure IQ and explain the importance of the relatively obscure issue of damage prevention.

The campaign features original educational content and encourages the public to think more about buried utility lines. This monthlong series is designed to provoke conversation about the vital role that underground infrastructure plays in our daily lives and how modern infrastructure is rooted in pipes, cables, and wires below our feet.

Modern Roots March acknowledges the importance of the public taking better responsibility for keeping themselves and their community safe by calling 811 before digging. Throughout the month, the campaign will feature informational graphics, interactive displays, and – not your grandfather’s think tank resource – even a unique parody video of the cult classic American Psycho.

Aii has reached out to 811 One-Call systems across the country encouraging them to Join the Campaign by sharing from our tool kit on social media, tagging our handle @AiiNonProfit, and using the hashtag #ModernRootsMarch. Most notably, the Modern Roots campaign was specifically designed for March as a way to lead into national safe digging month in April by helping build people’s intuition about what is beneath their feet!
